Faith Like a Child

A few days ago, on the OurCompassion website, I read a testimony from a young girl that really touched my heart.  With her permission, I am sharing her testimony here.

My Compassion Story

by Reighley C.

I thought that I'd share my story of how I came to sponsor a little angel named Bonna Das.

Well earlier this summer I had my 13th birthday. I received about $200 in cash, and I felt like God was telling me to save my money. The first thing that came to my mind was, " Jesus wants me to buy an iPad with a bible app on it! Yes that's the holy spirit!!!" No. That was my Flesh wanting to satisfy it’s greed. So I held onto my money. Then there came this one Wednesday night youth service and our pastor was talking about raising money for an orphanage in India. At that moment I felt like God was calling me to reach out and touch places that i couldn't physically touch. I mean I can go and volunteer at the local soup kitchen, or food bank, but I can't just walk over to Africa and help the poor.

So I held onto my money still, and then came camp. At camp they had a Compassion table where you could sign up and sponsor a child. Well, you know how moths are drawn to light? That's how I felt with the table. I just kind of ignored it until one night they started talking about what Compassion is and what a difference you could make. That's when I felt like God had taken a megaphone and was yelling at me," THIS IS WHAT THE MONEY IS FOR!!! THIS IS WHY YOU CAME TO CAMP!!!" So I got up from my seat and started to look at the different tables, I was looking for a packet that really stood out to me and grabbed my attention. Well that packet happened to be Bonna's. So I filled out the form and took the packet back to the dorm. Well everyone said I couldn't and I shouldn't because I was only 13 and i didn't have an income. And they asked what I'd do when the $200 ran out. I simply responded with the words God had given me when I asked myself the same questions.

#1. "I won't give you something too big to handle". And #2 "I will provide"

So I told them that. Well not a week after that I got a job to watch kids at my church. I got the check in the mail today, $32. That covers another month without me having to pull more than $10 from my savings. I've already paid for the first 3 months of Bonna's sponsorship. And I have enough for another 3.

For me, that's God, and my story of Compassion. When i grow up I plan on following God wherever he takes me. Right now it's doing missions and serving my community. I hope this testimony is a blessing to those who read it. =) - God Bless!

I just loved reading Reighley’s testimony, didn’t you?  This is the third story I have heard in a month’s time about a teen being called to sponsor, and that teen answering the call with faith.

Reminds me of 1 Timothy 4:12.

Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.

Thank you for setting an example, Reighley!  Readers, if you have any words of support for Reighley, leave a comment and I will be sure to direct her to this post!
