It has been a quiet week, here on Blogging from the Boonies.
My ol’ laptop has been on a rather stubborn streak and I think it is just about on its last leg. It randomly freezes up, shuts down and is generally very uncooperative.
On top of that, for a few days this week we were facing some spiritual warfare. Spears of stress, tension and conflict were hitting our household and it was a difficult couple of days. Add to that a heat-wave that had the inside of our house reaching ninety degrees and everyone was just about at their limit. On Thursday, I sent out a prayer request on Twitter and within 30 minutes it was like the clouds had parted. Not only did a cool breeze start to stir the stifling air, but peace and comfort also blew in on the wind.
One thing that really sticks with me is the feeling that these times of difficulty and spiritual battles are like a wake-up call that my priorities need to be redirected. Nothing brings me to prayer and pulls me to the Word of God like times of trial. How easy it is to drift from my devotion when things are smooth sailing. It takes being tossed by the waves, sometimes, to really focus on the only One who brings stability.
A friend sent me these verses:
“Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though some strange thing is happening to you. But rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.” 1 Peter 4:12-13
I was able to get online yesterday and look through a week’s worth of email messages. One specifically stood out to me and when I clicked on it and started reading it, my heart started to race.
A desire of mine is going to come to fruition! I have been invited to travel across the country at the end of July. Can you guess where I am going?
I can hardly believe it! I have been invited to Compassion International’s Global Ministry Center in Colorado to participate in the Social Networking Summit!
Oh. My. Gosh! (My heart is still racing at the prospect!)
I am thrilled and honored and humbled that I was asked to be a part of this event! I don’t know all of the details just yet, but I am just SO thrilled!
(I’m also a teensy bit nervous to travel so far from home all by myself and speak in front of people, but I think God is refining me through this and I know He will carry me through!)
Just a few more things to mention before I head offline for a while. If you have emailed me in the last week, I am doing my best to sift through and get to replies. I will try to get back to you as soon as possible, as long as my laptop keeps chugging along.
If you are waiting on a Family Sponsorship Pack from me, I hope to get to the Post Office on Monday or Tuesday! Sorry for the delay!
And lastly, I would like to share this sweet girl with you.
This is Natacha from Burkina Faso. I have her packet, which expires on the 17th of this month. Her birthday is August 26th, 2004 and she lives with her Grandmother. Did you notice her shirt?
I am hoping that someone reading this blog would be willing to sponsor this beautiful girl. Would you join me in praying that she tugs at someone’s heart? If you would like to add Natacha to your family, please leave a comment or email me. I can send you the info you need in order to start her sponsorship right away online. I would mail her packet to you next week.
