Virtual Letter Writing Party

In an effort to promote the letter-writing aspect of sponsoring through Compassion International, the second Friday of every month has been named a Virtual Letter Writing Party. If you click that link in red, you’ll go to a post on Compassion’s blog with the details.

As I have mentioned so many times before, your letters to your sponsored children are SO important.  Poverty is not just a lack of money, but is a lack of hope and opportunity.  A lack of worth.  Your letters go a long way to let your child know that they ARE important and worthy. I would love to urge you to write to your children at least once a month.  If you don’t know what to write about, check out the links in my right hand sidebar.  If you don’t have any goodies or extras to send, don’t let that stop you from at least sending out a letter.  When Mail Day comes and your child’s name is called, there will be joy in their hearts.

I plan to have letters for all 8 of our children ready to send on Friday. I have written about the recent snowfall and the newest addition to our family ~ Scruffy the pup!  I am also personalizing the little boxes that I found on Oriental Trading a couple of weeks ago.  I think that the children will like them!

HPIM3419Will you join in the Virtual Letter Writing Party this week?  What will you be writing about?

I have it on my calendar - I have the paper picked out and will probably begin going through the letters I got this month. It takes me either several hours in one day, or a little time for several days for me to get it all done. But I love doing it and look forward to it! I'm sending our Christmas family photo this time.

I'm working on my letters to my two new compassion kids today! :D

I don't think I'll do the virtual letter writing (I'm assuming it's via the email option) this time. I did already send out an emailed note to my new additions this week.

Sometimes if I've thought of a specific verse or thing I want to say to a specific child and I want to get it out asap, I'll send it through email before I forget.

It doesn't have to be via email. In fact, I don't always join in the monthly "party" because I've been on a different schedule. I think that my new schedule of writing to 4 children each week and sending everything out on the 2nd and 4th weeks of the month may allow me to join in the promotion.
For those of us who write often, don't feel like you HAVE to join in. I am so thrilled to see how many people have caught wind of this on Facebook and twitter and have committed to writing monthly.

I also don't usually do it because of the "virtual party"-- although I'm glad they're encouraging everyone to write! I already had calendars planned to send out, my 5 year old and I finished them last night!

btw, I LOVE the photos of your 3 girls in the snow, how beautiful! What a sweet moment!

Thank you for including pictures of the letters, projects and packets you send to the Compassion Children. Also thank you for all the Specific ideas for what to send and where to obtain and even specific suggestions as to what to say. Trying to write to young children that I have never meant in a 3rd world country is VERY, VERY HARD for me. If I had understood that writing to them would be an expectation I probably would not have sponsored the children. But I believe that God wants us to sponsor these children so I figure that He knew that He had to "sneak" this writing in on me. Soooo I am trying to get more faithful with writing more often to our sponsored children. ALL the specific ideas are SO VERY MUCH appreciated.
Thank you.

Bonnie, I am so glad that I can help you! That just makes my day! Keep in mind, if letter writing becomes too much for you, you also have the option to contact Compassion and ask that they assign your child a correspondent. It sounds like you have come to a place of peace where it comes to the letter-writing responsibility, but just in case life gets too busy for you, you do have that option.
