2010 in Review

As 2010 draws to a close, I thought it might be neat to do a little “Compassion in 2010” review.

This year, I officially became a Compassion Advocate. (Will 2011 be the year YOU become one?)  I went to my first Advocates conference and learned SO much about all of the work this organization does.

I worked my first tables at Compassion sponsored events. I even got to work a table with my husband at a Selah show, which was such a GREAT experience!

I also got the chance to meet Shaun Groves at Kingdom Bound.  I am embarrassed to say that I was a teensy bit star-struck and in awe.  I can’t remember what I actually said to him, but I know that it wasn’t much and I probably sounded like a fool. lol

In 2010, we welcomed three into our family.

While we said farewell to one.

By my counts, I was able to help over 20 children find sponsors! Woohoo! To God goes all of the glory!

I wrote over 200 letters to our sweet Compassion International kids, some  via snail mail and some via email.

I did the Happy Dance at the mailbox 66 times after receiving the much sought-after beige envelopes.

Not to mention, I made many great friends who share my love for  all things Compassion International. Much love going out to my sister-bloggers; Jessica, Amy, Megan, JD and Jill F.

All in all, it was a great year as far as Compassion goes.  On a personal level, we’ve had our fair share of struggles, but those work to pull us closer with God and remember Who we really need to rely on.

Here’s to an even better 2011!!

I heart your picture with Shaun! Lol.

And, like I once told Shaun, who knows how many children you helped indirectly by the grown ups you've inspired! Two of my friends have decided to sponsor in the last couple of months, and I think that line of inspiration ends up here because you're the one who inspired me to start blogging about Compassion. So there! :)

2010 is the year we first sponsored a Compassion student, and now there are 6! I've been so inspired by your example, M. May your 2011 be full of letters and blessings.

Thanks for the inspiration this year, Michelle! When I first became a sponsor, I spent a lot of time going through your archives to get some ideas on how to do this sponsorship right. You have been a great help to me...and now I just enjoy hanging out around here. :)

Have a blessed 2011!!

Hi Michelle! You can add one more child who is now receiving letters because I signed up for a correspondence child after being inspired by you. I love your blog, it has lots of wonderful ideas and is such an encouragement and inspiration for me. In the past I have let a month or two slip in between writing letters, but now I have sent my kids letters at least twice a month for the last 3 months and will continue to do so. I have also used some of your great devotionals. And you also inspired me to send out 60 Christmas cards to unsponsored children! You are a blessing! Thank you!

Michelle--a question: Do you know if Compassion leaves you on the correspondent list after they assign you a child? I would be excited to correspond with more than one kiddo, but I wondered if I should call Compassion and let them know that I'm not limited to just one.

Megan, if you didn't specify wanting more than one child then you would be off of the list after one was assigned. You can call again and ask to go on the list. If you want more than one, just tell them!

Thanks! I'll do it!
