Our Kaya Jade turns NINE today! While most of her baby pictures aren’t on this laptop, I’ll share a few of my favorites of our curly-girlie through the years.
Our Kaya has always been such a sweet girl. From the age of two, whenever she would get presents she would immediately give something away to her sister. She is the kind of girl who, when beating her older sister at Monopoly, asked me if it was ok to share her money with her sister so she didn’t feel bad and so the game would continue longer. She is compassionate and sensitive, creative and vibrant.
But, there is more to her story. Something that I reflect on often, and especially around her birthday. You see, when I found out I was pregnant with Kaya, I was scared. I wasn’t sure that Jay and I were going to last. I went to Planned Parenthood, who confirmed my pregnancy and discussed “options” with me. I drove home with my head spinning in a million different directions. Panic and fear and dread all rolled into one. But, suddenly, something fell over me. A sense of peace, and the words, “You can do this. You can raise this child.” echoed through my head. I wasn’t a believer then, but I have felt that peace and now know it to be the hand of God.
Kaya is proof that God’s grace isn’t limited to those who believe. He reached out to me, when I didn’t even believe He existed. I think about it often. What a miracle that He reached out to me, to reassure me. I can only praise the Lord.
Thank you, Jesus, for the gift you have given me in this amazing little girl.
